Sidmouth, in East Devon, has had a badminton club for over 40 years. Starting on one court in the Drill Hall on Sidmouth sea front, it moved in 1981 to the newly opened Sidmouth Sports Centre, its present home. Over time, the club has grown, offering a friendly atmosphere to all those who play and enjoy the fast, exciting sport of Badminton. Its membership ranges from social players to Exeter & District Badminton League competitors. Some play at Devon County level. Everyone - youngsters, over 40's and even over 65's - enjoy the regular club evenings.
Our PE kit for boys and girls is available exclusively from Proserve, who have been supplying the School with high quality clothing for the last three years. As we are currently trialling a new Tutor Group system, students may not be allocated their ‘House’ until after the cut-off date for orders. Therefore, orders for Polo Tops will not be fulfilled until September when all the ‘Houses’ will be known. The only compulsory items of kit you will need to order from Proserve are: • Burgundy polo shirt with THS badge • Reversible rugby shirt (boys), Zip neck sweatshirt (girls) • Football or rugby shorts with THS badge • Football socks In addition to the kit above you will also need to ensure that your child has a pair of football boots and proper training shoes for their lessons and not leisure or ‘skate’ shoes. There are other additional, non-compulsory items you might like to consider: • Badged track pants • Badged slipover • Shower-proof training top (available direct from the school) As last year, the package will include a free mouth-guard and shin-guard with orders over £35. This year we are introducing a ‘Quad Pack’ deal, giving free socks if you order a polo shirt, rugby shirt/zip neck sweatshirt, football/rugby shorts and track pants. You will be able to order their kit by posting the completed form to Proserve with cheques made payable to PROSERVE, or by phoning Proserve direct for credit /debit card orders and payment. If you order before the end of 18th June you will be able to collect at the Parents Evening (except for the Polo Top). I urge you to pre-order if possible, but you can also order at the Parents Evenings. I would advise that your child tries on the new kit as soon as you receive it, in case you need to exchange any item and that you label all of it with their full name. We feel that the PE kit raises the self-esteem of the students, and installs greater pride and respect for their kit, their ‘House’, PE and themselves. If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me at the school. Mr N Foot Subject Leader Physical Education
About Visions Visions Badminton Academy based at Cranford and Torquay. The Visions Way Head coaches Sue Williams and Darren Peterson share a common coaching ethos of quality first and foremost in all aspects of training and performance. Low player to coach/court ratios- as players reach the higher levels of national play they will often spend more time in one or two player sessions so they are working at their highest level. Good quality courts and shuttles- wherever possible we try to use courts with wooden floors- elite players cannot train or move properly on solid floors this will only lead to injury. Training for tournaments- sessions are fitted around the tournament schedule , nearly all visions players are soon playing on the national circuits, this means training is mostly away from weekends in the season and allows for recovery and peaking to suit the individual player’s programme. Coaching at tournaments Suzanne and Darren often travel with players to tournaments, a large part of a player’s improvement comes at tournaments and coaches can only coach effectively if they see their players perform at tournaments. Quality Coaches While a coaching badge is easily achieved becoming a top coach takes time, passion, skill, effort and experience. The visions coaching staff constantly seek out the most innovative training methods and study the current world class players for inspiration. Ability Based Coaching When we run coaching for groups it is done on the basis of ability. We tailor physical training to the athlete’s needs and development. Age is not relevant to groupings as long as the player can fit in socially and work at the level they need to. Train with Devon’s most successful coaches and Devon’s best players.
